Selena
She was a performer as well as a designer, and music pioneer. She was a Mexican American performer that was modern and traditional. She united both worlds and helped bring Tejano music to the forefront. Like many times when an incredibly bright and friendly star is lost way too soon, her untimely demise has thrown her profile into a quagmire. A lot of mourners reacted to her potential, which was untapped. In order to prevent her achievements from becoming forgotten many of her fans in the last few years have been motivated to achieve more. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response within the Latino community that could be compared to the reactions in the wake of the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular within Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact the lives of young and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by certain people as an Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic role model. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness campaigns make her a good example.
